General Rules, Interpretation and Guidance
Throughout this section the words ‘shall’ or ‘must’ indicate a mandatory rule, whereas the words ‘should’ or ‘may’ do not indicate a mandatory rule. Failure to comply with a mandatory rule may result in a penalty including elimination from a competition, being imposed and/or in disciplinary action. Interspersed with such Rules are guidance notes and procedures intended to assist in their interpretation and application.
Throughout this handbook the word ‘horse’ should be taken as to also include ‘pony’.
The Rules can never cover every eventuality. Matters that cannot be solved by interpreting the Rules to the letter should be resolved by following the spirit of the text to obtain the solution that is fairest to all competitors. The Endurance GB Management Committee shall be the sole interpreter of the Rules.
The welfare of the horse shall be paramount. Therefore, the horse should be prepared and educated to ensure a reasonable standard of behaviour, and must be under control at all times. Horses shall be supervised at all times when not stabled.
Members should take particular care in vetting and farrier inspection areas, especially when the areas are busy.
Any Member behaving in a manner likely to bring the sport into disrepute may be referred to the Disciplinary Panel.
All Members are expected to volunteer to help at a ride at least once in a season.
EGB Membership is open to all nationalities.
Endurance GB is committed to a policy of equal opportunities and will not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, religion or disability.
Public Liability Insurance
Membership of Endurance GB provides public liability insurance as detailed in the policy document contained in a later section of this Handbook.Non-members taking part in a ride as a ‘Temporary Day Member’ will, for the duration of the event, benefit from the Endurance GB Public Liability Cover.
