The Countryside Code

The sport of Endurance Riding by its very nature involves riding across land with the permission and/or goodwill of landowners and rural communities. The rules and guidance given in the Handbook are intended to assist in the safe enjoyment of the sport and shall be observed by all members.

General Rules, Interpretation and Guidance

The Rules can never cover every eventuality. Matters that cannot be solved by interpreting the Rules to the letter should be resolved by following the spirit of the text to obtain the solution that is fairest to all competitors. The Endurance GB Management Committee shall be the sole interpreter of the Rules.

The welfare of the horse shall be paramount. Therefore, the horse should be prepared and educated to ensure a reasonable standard of behaviour, and must be under control at all times. Horses shall be supervised at all times when not stabled.

Members should take particular care in vetting and farrier inspection areas, especially when the areas are busy.

Any Member behaving in a manner likely to bring the sport into disrepute may be referred to the Disciplinary Panel.

All Members are expected to volunteer to help at a ride at least once in a season.

EGB Membership is open to all nationalities.

Endurance GB is committed to a policy of equal opportunities and will not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, religion or disability.

Public Liability Insurance

Membership of Endurance GB provides public liability insurance as detailed in the policy document contained in a later section of this Handbook.

Non-members taking part in a ride as a ‘Temporary Day Member’ will, for the duration of the event, benefit from the Endurance GB Public Liability Cover.

Disclaimer

Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of its Officials and Ride Organisers, Endurance GB does not accept liability for any accident, injury, damage or illness to horses/ponies, owners, riders, crews, spectators or any other person whatsoever.

Doping

Riders and horses shall comply with current rules issued by the BEF and FEI Veterinary Regulations. Failure to comply with Standard Sampling Procedures laid out by these organisations constitutes a breach of the rules and will be referred to the Disciplinary Panel.

Health and Safety Policy Statement

Endurance GB recognises the aims of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and accepts its requirements and will, therefore, seek to provide a safe environment and endeavour to ensure that all its operations are carried out in a manner that avoids injury to our members, horses and the general public at events organised for and on behalf of Endurance GB.

A written Health and Safety Policy Statement, Health and Safety Guidance Notes for Ride Organisers and Health and Safety Guidance Notes for Health and Safety Representatives can be obtained from the Endurance GB office and its website (www.endurancegb.co.uk).

Equine Influenza Vaccination

The Endurance GB Management Committee advises all Members to have their horses immunised against Equine Influenza in accordance with current Jockey Club Rules or FEI Rules as appropriate. As individual rides may require immunisation as a condition of entry it isessential to check the entry in the current Ride Programme for each planned ride.

For each ride that requires evidence of immunisation, a horse passport will be required, showing an up-to-date record of vaccination against Equine Influenza. For Jockey Club Rules, this will state that the horse has received two injections for primary vaccination against EquineInfluenza, given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart. No horse may enterracecourse premises without such certification.

A horse foaled on or after 1 January 1980 should have received a first booster injection given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the second injection of the primary vaccination. In addition, a booster injection must be recorded as having been given within each succeeding 12 months, subsequent to the first booster. For horses and ponies who havecompleted their two injections for primary vaccination prior to 1 January 1980, the interval between booster injections must have been not more than 14 months.

None of these injections must have been given within the preceding 7 days including the day of the competition or of entry into the competition stables. Horses vaccinated according to the above rules will satisfy the current requirements of the Rules of Racing. Other private stables

may also demand that visiting horses are vaccinated.

For FEI Rides, as from 1st January 2005, all participating horses must have received a booster vaccination within 6 months of the competition but not within the preceding 7 days.

Horse Registration

Horses must be registered before entering the first competitive ride of each season and may only be registered by a fully paid up member of EGB

Endurance Horse Logbooks

Each horse entered for a competitive ride shall have an Endurance Horse Logbook.

A horse/pony shall have a logbook for its lifetime, which may be obtained from Endurance GB, SERC or ILDRA. Any horse/rider found to have/use additional logbooks will face an automatic 90-day ban from competition.

Note: Logbooks issued by EHPS, BERA, SERC and ILDRA are also valid.

If the horse is sold, its Logbook (including all past and current Mastercards) must be passed to the new owner.
