She will also attend the FEI Endurance European Championships for Young Riders & Juniors in Jullianges in a shadowing capacity — a strategically important step, as Jullianges will host the FEI Endurance European Championships for Seniors the following year.

A lifetime shaped by horses

From being first sat on a Thoroughbred at just two years old, Maggie’s equestrian journey has been anything but ordinary. Her early years were spent immersed in horses of all types — Thoroughbreds, Arabians, sport horses and native types — across disciplines as varied as hunting, racing, show jumping and dressage.

That journey took her around the world, riding and working internationally in Canada, Switzerland, North America and Mongolia, alongside breeding and producing her own horses, including FEI-level endurance horses. As Maggie puts it, “Horses are simply part of my DNA.”

Endurance riding entered her life more than 30 years ago, drawn by the adventure, the partnership with the horse, and the unique camaraderie of the sport — qualities that continue to define her philosophy today.

Building teams, not just results

Maggie recently concluded a 12-year tenure (plus a “bonus year”) as Chef d’Equipe of the England Home International Endurance Team, a role in which she became known for developing riders as people, not just performances on paper.

Reflecting on her appointment, Endurance GB Chair, Larissa Whiley said:

“Maggie impressed the panel with her depth of experience, clarity of vision and unwavering commitment to horse welfare and team culture. We are confident she is the right person to lead Team GBR into the next phase.”

That emphasis on development, communication and shared responsibility will be central to Maggie’s approach with the Senior Squad.

“Teams don’t just happen,” Maggie explains. “They’re built — slowly and carefully.
